Call for Nomination and Application:
Editor-In-Chief of ACM Transactions on Computer Systems (TOCS)

The current Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the ACM Transactions on Computer Systems (TOCS), Prof. Peter Chen, is stepping down from this role. The ACM Publications Board has set up a nominating committee to assist the Board in selecting the next EiC.

Nominations, including self nominations, are invited for a three-year term as TOCS EiC, beginning in Spring 2013. The EiC appointment may be renewed at most one time. This is an entirely voluntary position, but ACM will provide appropriate administrative support.

The EiC is responsible for maintaining the highest editorial quality, for setting technical direction of the papers published in TOCS, and for maintaining a reasonable pipeline of articles for publication. The EiC has final say on acceptance of papers, size of the Editorial Board, and appointment of Associate Editors. The EiC is expected to adhere to the commitments expressed in the policy on Rights and Responsibilities in ACM Publishing. For more information about the role of the EiC, see ACM's Evaluation Criteria for Editors-in-Chief.

Nominees and applicants must have strong, relevant experience in a role such as a journal associate editor or program chair for a high-quality, peer-reviewed conference. In order to attract high-quality papers to the journal, they must also have an outstanding reputation as an international leader in their area of expertise. Key qualities of the EiC are a good understanding of the research community's needs at academic, industrial, and government laboratories, awareness of research areas and emerging developments in computer systems, plus the skills and dedication to manage the editorial cycle in a timely fashion.

Nominations (with prior consent of the nominee) should be sent via email to the Search Committee chair, who will contact the candidate for information. Applications (i.e., self nominations) should be sent via email to the Search Committee chair, and include a curriculum vitae and a brief statement (1-2 pages) outlining the candidate's vision for the future development of TOCS. Candidates will be considered until the position is filled, but to receive full consideration nominations and applications should arrive by January 31, 2013.

Please send all nominations to the nominating committee chair, Lorenzo Alvisi. The search committee members are:
